Tabz O’Brien (she/her)

Tabz has spent more than a decade working across a wide range of social justice issues in the charity sector, at national, regional, and local levels. She has worked at organisations such as Shelter and Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM), a coalition of Mind, Clinks, Collective Voice and Homeless Link.

She is currently a policy and strategy lead for Multiple Disadvantage at Greater Manchester Combined Authority, working in partnership to create real change for – and most importantly with – people facing intersecting inequalities and disadvantages across the devolved city region.

Tabz is Chair of Trustees of MASH in Greater Manchester, an organisation founded as a community-led response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. MASH exists to provide gender and trauma responsive support to women in Greater Manchester who are, have been or may start sex working and who are experiencing the sharp end of social and health inequalities. She has also served on a range of charity boards and committees in organisations focusing on campaigning and movement building, to LGBTQ youth homelessness. She’s interested in exploring what transformative governance looks like for social justice charities. 

Tabz is a proud, lifelong Mancunian and lives there with her wife and dog. She’s an active member of her local community – from mobilizing large-scale community events and protests, to volunteering at her local foodbank and supporting local LGBTQ+ groups and campaigns. LGBTQ+ people are (proudly!) over-represented in her family, and the campaigning work of Stonewall has had a massive impact on all their lives.
