We’ve been waiting over five years for the UK Government to ban the horrific practice of conversion therapy.
And in August, with time running out, the UK Government decided to take a long summer holiday while a Bill that could end the suffering rotted in the 'to-do' pile.
While Rishi Sunak sunned himself in California – one of many parts of the world where conversion practices are banned – countless LGBTQ+ people in the UK were enduring abuse, often at the hands of their families or communities. Many LGBTQ+ young people spent their summers at camps – away from their support networks – experiencing conversion therapy.
The Bill to Ban Conversion Therapy apparently spent four weeks in Rishi’s inbox, awaiting sign-off. This caused widespread anger amongst LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, parents, teachers, religious leaders, and medical professionals alike.
Thank you for over 2,000 of you who wrote postcards to the Prime Minister to urge him to implement a complete ban on conversion therapy in England and Wales, without further delay.
Nearly 65,000 of you have also written to your MPs, demanding they show support for a complete ban. Your actions have been invaluable in getting us all the way to the PM's inbox.
Let's keep going. Support us to keep campaigning to ban conversion therapy.
